Licence for Ad-Din Hospital reinstated

The government has reinstated the operating licence of Ad-Din Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, nearly two months after it was revoked following the deaths of six newborns.

However, the hospital has been directed to comply strictly with three conditions before continuing its operations.

The Health Services Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced the decision in an order issued on Monday afternoon.

The reinstatement was also confirmed by the hospital’s lawyer, Shishir Manir, in a social media post.

Under the ministry’s order, the hospital must continue to comply with the provisions of the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulations) Ordinance, 1982.

It has also been instructed to complete, without delay, the appointment of duty doctors and nurses in accordance with the conditions stipulated in its licence.

The ministry further warned that the government-authorised authority would be entitled to take legal action at any time if the hospital fails to comply with the licence conditions.

The licence was revoked after six newborns died at the hospital on 27 May, an incident that triggered widespread public concern and prompted an official investigation.

Following the inquiry, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) identified a number of irregularities in the hospital’s operations and cancelled its licence.

The hospital subsequently appealed the decision. After reviewing the findings of the investigation committee, the Health Ministry decided to restore the licence, allowing the hospital to resume operations subject to compliance with the stipulated conditions.
