Refreshing rain brings relief to Dhaka’s sweltering streets; more showers likely

NN Online:
A brief spell of rain swept through parts of Dhaka on Thursday morning, offering much-needed respite to residents grappling with the relentless summer heat.

Lasting nearly an hour, the light to moderate downpour cooled the capital’s concrete jungle — from towering buildings to bustling alleyways — and transformed the city’s atmosphere into one of temporary calm and comfort.

Temperatures dipped slightly as grey clouds lingered above, bringing a momentary sense of peace to a city wearied by scorching conditions.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) reported that more rain is expected later in the day, with overcast skies signaling further chances of showers. Commuters, office workers, and street vendors adapted their routines as they navigated wet roads and prepared for more rainfall.

According to a BMD bulletin issued Wednesday, most parts of the country — including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions — could experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers, possibly accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. In some regions, heavier downpours are also anticipated.

This weather shift marks the beginning of what may be a broader transition into the pre-monsoon period, with the current pattern expected to persist for at least two more days.

For many in Dhaka, Thursday’s rainfall brought more than a drop in temperature — it lifted spirits. After enduring weeks of intense heat, even a short burst of rain felt like a welcome breath of fresh air.
