Season's Hottest Day: Dhaka swelters at 40.1°C

Dhaka experienced its hottest day of the season on Saturday, with temperatures soaring to 40.1°C, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Speaking to the press, Shahana Sultana, a meteorologist at the BMD, confirmed that the capital had entered the severe heatwave category.

As per BMD classification, temperatures ranging from 38°C to 39.9°C are considered a moderate heatwave, while those between 40°C and 42°C fall under the severe heatwave category.

In a separate update, the Meteorological Department issued a thunderstorm warning for three regions, advising river ports in the affected areas to hoist the appropriate cautionary signals. The advisory is in effect until 1:00 AM.

Authorities have urged the public to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and to remain alert for weather updates.
