Mohammedan return to winning streak in BPL Football

League leaders Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited returned to the winning streak in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football after defeating Bangladesh Police Football Club 3-1 at Martyr Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.

Earlier, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited played a goalless draw with their arch-rivals and title aspirants Dhaka Abahani Limited.

The popular Motijheel based outfit, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited gained 34 points from 13 matches, while Bangladesh Police Football Club took the fifth position earning 19 points from as many outings.

After a barren first half, Mohammedan’s Nigerian recruit Emmanuel Sunday put his team ahead by a header (1-0) using a right side cross of his teammate Mehedi Hasan in the 52nd minute of the play.

In the 65th minute, a booter of Bangladesh Police Football Club was roughly charged by a Mohammedan defender at the danger zone of Mohammedan. Thus Police Club was awarded a penalty kick by the referee. Police Football Club’s Brazilian defender Danilo equalized the margin by a penalty kick (1-1).

After ninety-minute play, Dhaka Wanderers Club’s local forward Yusuf Sifat scored the all-important goal in the sixth minute of the injury time of the second half.

After yesterday’s outcome, Dhaka Wanderers Club took the ninth position earning seven points from 13 matches, while Fortis Football Club took the seventh position capturing 18 points from as many outings.
