Sohel Rana bids farewell to acting, politics

Sheikh Arif Bulbon :

Sohel Rana has been involved in Dhaka’s movies since the beginning
of independent Bangladesh.
Masud Parvez alias Sohel Rana entered the film industry as the producer of Bangladesh’s first full-length liberation war based film, ‘Ora 11 Jon’. The movie was released in 1972.
He made his acting debut two years later, in 1974, as Masud Rana, the famous character in Kazi Anwar Hossain’s film. He also directed the movie ‘Masud Rana’.
Sohel Rana then became one of the popular heroes of Dhallywood. He has acted in over 300 movies.
Along with films, he has also been found in the field of politics.
Finally, Sohel Rana officially bid farewell to acting. He said he would no longer be seen in political activities.
While talking in this regard, Sohel Rana told this correspondent, “I stood in front of the camera as an actor in 1973. It has been almost 52 years since then. As time goes on, time has to end. Although I still cherish acting in my heart, I will never be seen in professional acting again. I have decided to retire from active politics and professional acting. I won’t be seen on screen again. My body can’t support me anymore. However, I still have a passion for directing a movie, but it seems like I won’t be able to do it at my age.”
Sohel Rana said he decided to retire mainly due to age.
In this regard, he said, “The biggest reason for retiring from acting is age. I am now 79 years old. Being involved in both acting and politics requires a lot of activity and a lot of studying. I can’t do these things anymore due to my physical condition. Staying here means being forced to stay.”
While announcing his decision to quit acting, Sohel Rana spoke about his regrets regarding the country’s film industry and said, “The film industry is over now. The two or four people who are working now are not in line with my generation. They are not suited to the way we are supposed to be used. We see in foreign films, artists of our age doing great work. Separate stories and characters are being written for them. But nothing like that is happening in our country. When our artistes get older, they are only used as characters for their parents and uncles. If I have the opportunity to perform, there’s no problem in playing this type of role. But if I don’t, there’s no point in acting. I want to leave that place. People love and respect me. I want to move away with this love from people.” Sohel Rana was last seen in Tanvir Hossain’s movie ‘Moddhobitto’. Although he has been irregular in movies for the past decade.
