Police held with Yaba in Cox’s Bazar

Staff Reporter :

Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested three individuals, including a police officer, with 7,500 pieces of Yaba tablets during a raid in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday night.

The arrested persons were identified as Zahidul Islam, 33, a wireless operator at Ramu Police Station, and his alleged accomplices Avijit Chowdhury, 35, from Patiya in Chattogram, and Pushan Chowdhury, 37, from Raozan upazila.

In this regards, Sirajul Mostafa, Assistant Director of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Cox’s Bazar, told the media that the operation was carried out at a house rented by Zahidul in Mondalpara area of Ramu.

During the raid, officials recovered 7,500 Yaba tablets hidden in a private car parked outside the residence. Inside the house, authorities also found drug-taking paraphernalia and empty alcohol bottles.

According to locals, the house had become a known hotspot for drug use, with strangers frequently visiting. However, fear of the accused policeman allegedly prevented anyone from reporting the activities earlier.

The house was reportedly rented from the wife of a Saudi expatriate named Mobarak Hossain.

A case is being prepared against the three detainees, confirmed the DNC official.
