Hridoy powers Jaffna to reach final at LPL
Bangladeshi batter Tawhid Hridoy, who is in great form, scored a fifty in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) this time. He showed his mettle in the Jaffna Kings jersey. Jaffna Kings defeated Galle Gallants by 14 runs and reached the final. Tawhid Hridoy was excellent with the bat in this match of runs.
Jaffna Kings scored 242 runs for 2 wickets in 20 overs against Galle Gallants in the first qualifier of the LPL on Wednesday.
Opener Mishara played an unbeaten innings of 108 runs off 55 balls with 10 fours and seven sixes. Hridoy scored an unbeaten 54 off 21 balls at number four with five sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 257. Batting at number three, Khawaja Nafe scored 54 off 32 balls with three sixes and four fours.
Jaffna got a huge boost from Tawhid Hridoy’s stormy batting towards the end. After 15 overs, where they had accumulated 171 runs for 1 wicket, they scored 71 runs in the last five overs.
Hridoy came out to bat in the 16th over. The right-handed batter could have been LBW on the first ball of Tharindu Ratnayake in the 17th over. However, he survived. Hridoy attacked the Gallant bowlers after getting life. He hit his first six on the fifth ball of that over.
After hitting a four in the 18th over, Hridoy sent the first two balls of Ishan Malinga to the gallery in the next over.
He played only six balls of the last over. Making Mishara, who had scored a century, a spectator, he scored 22 runs from the last over of the innings with two fours and two sixes.
With this, Hridoy’s total runs in four innings in this year’s LPL are 141.
In reply, Galle managed to score a fighting 228 runs for 8 wickets. Sam Harper played the highest innings of 44 runs for them. Shakib took Chamika Karunaratne’s wicket even though she raised hopes.
This was his only victim, giving away 36 runs in 3 overs. This was his ninth wicket in this tournament. Galle’s lower order batters tried to turn around in the end, but they were unsuccessful.
The final match will be held in Colombo on Saturday.
