‘Inform new generation about Mujibnagar Govt’
BSS, Dhaka
Eminent jurist and one of the architects of country’s constitution Barrister Amir-ul Islam on Friday called for informing the new generation about the Mujibnagar Government.
“The new generation cannot be left in confusions. Let them know about the Mujibnagar government. They are longing to know the truth,” he said speaking as chief guest at a discussion in the city marking historic Mujibnagar Day.
Organised by Bangamata Parishad, the discussion meeting was held at the Jatiya Press Club with Parishad President Mozaffar Hossain Paltu in the chair.
Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam addressed the meeting as the main speaker. The Prime Minister’s former health adviser Modasser Ali and Prof Hossain Mansur also spoke on the occasion, among others.
Barrister Amir-ul Islam said those who do not accept historic Mujibnagar Day actually deny Bangladesh.
He said the new generation was not allowed to know the real history after the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975.
“Now they want to know the history,” he added.
Barrister Amir-ul Islam said Moshtaq, Zia and Taheruddin Thakur wanted to make a confederation with Pakistan during the Liberation War. They were intruders in the Liberation War, he added.
Though detained in Pakistan jail, Bangabandhu was the driving force during the Liberation War, he said.
Qamrul Islam blamed BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for burning people to death in the name of movement.
Referring to forthcoming city corporation polls, he said a good election atmosphere has been created, but it will be destroyed, if Khaleda Zia begins electioneering.
He hoped the people would not vote for the terrorists in the city polls.
The food minister alleged that late Ziaur Rahman used the Suhrawardi Udyan for dishonest purposes.
