Biman denies rumours, confirms emergency landing in Nagpur
Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh Biman, the national flag carrier condemned rumours circulating on social media regarding a recent incident about one of its flights travelling from Dhaka to Dubai which was forced to make an emergency landing at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur, India, on February 22 due to a technical glitch.
The airline clarified that certain individuals had attempted to spread misleading information and create panic among passengers.
They expressed gratitude to the majority of passengers for their patience and cooperation throughout the ordeal.
Flight BG 347, a Boeing 777, was carrying 396 passengers and 12 crew members when it experienced technical difficulties during the journey.
Following standard precautionary measures under ICAO, Boeing, and CAAB guidelines, the pilot made an in-flight announcement to inform passengers that the emergency landing in Nagpur was due to a mechanical fault.
The aircraft safely landed at 11:27 PM Bangladesh time, with all passengers and crew disembarking without incident.
The plane was then inspected, and necessary security procedures were carried out.
Passengers were provided with food, water, and other essential amenities by Nagpur airport authorities due to the unexpected nature of the landing.
Challenges faced by passengers included prolonged delays caused by security clearance procedures at Nagpur Airport.
Additionally, logistical issues arose as the airport, not typically used to handling large aircraft like the Boeing 777, experienced delays in baggage handling and clearance.
Some passengers voiced dissatisfaction with the waiting times and limited facilities, though Bangladesh Airlines assured that all expenses related to passenger welfare during the delay were covered.
As the original aircraft was deemed unfit for further travel, Bangladesh Airlines arranged an alternative flight, BG 126, to transport the stranded passengers.
The rescue flight departed Nagpur at 10:28 AM (Bangladesh time) on February 23 and safely landed in Dubai at 5:42 PM (Bangladesh time).
However, Biman expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and thanked passengers for their understanding.
Bangladesh Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and confirmed that stringent maintenance protocols are followed to ensure a secure travel experience.
The incident also underscored the need for better coordination between international airport authorities to facilitate smoother handling of such emergencies in the future.
