Sports Reporter:

Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket will start from March 3 without participation of foreign player. DPL, one of the most prestigious domestic cricket competition will be held in the three venues of Dhaka. The three venues are: Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur, BKSP Ground-3 in Savar and BKSP-4 in Savar.

Earlier, most of the participating teams recruited noted foreign cricketers to compete in the DPL. The participation of foreign cricketers usually give a colourful, enjoyable and be-fitting manner.

Once a number of three foreign cricketers were available to play for a team in DPL. But this year no foreign cricketers will not be allowed to take part for a competing team in DPL Cricket. The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) decided not to give any option for a club to recruit any foreign cricketers. It may be mentioned that CCDM always arranged the DPL Cricket. CCDM, a sister concern of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will also organise the DPL of this year.

CCDM took this decision as the participating clubs are not interested to recruit foreign players.

A total of 12 clubs will take part in the DPL Cricket, a 50-over-a-side cricket meet. The players’ transfer programme of DPL Cricket will be held on February 22 and February 23. The players of Bangladesh National Cricket squad will be busy with ICC Champions Trophy when the players’ transfer window of DPL Cricket will be held. But most of the noted cricketers have completed their change to play in the participating team’s of DPL Cricket this year. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim left their earlier outfit Prime Bank Cricket Club and joined Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited. Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited retained Mahmudullah Riyad in their squad. Captain of Bangladesh National Cricket team Najmul Hossain Shanto will play Dhaka Abahani Limited.

Dhaka Abahani Limited made their team with the noted players earlier of couple of years. But after changing the Government of Bangladesh, Dhaka Abahani lost their glory. Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Tanvir Islam already confirmed their teams.

A official of CCDM said to a local website, ” We have decided to give chance to the local players this year. It will be a golden opportunity for the local cricketers.”

Former national selector Hannan Sarkar said, ” Last couple of years the foreign cricketers, who took part in the DPL Cricket were not up to the mark. Our local players are not far away from the performance of the foreign players. So, the local players should get more chance.”
