Fakirerpool stun Mohammedan in BPL Football

Youngmens Club Fakirerpool stunned league leaders Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by a solitary goal in their ninth match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football at Martyr Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.

After yesterday’s outcome Mohammedan Sporting Club led the points table bagging 24 points from nine matches, while Fakirerpool took the seventh spot earning nine points from as many outings.

Before yesterday’s match, Mohammedan were remained unbeaten. Though they lost to minnows Fakirerpool but Mohammedan finished their first phase of the league with top spot of the points table.

Fakirerpool’s Uzbek attacking midfielder Sardor Jakhonov put his team ahead by a power-packed shot in the 66th minute of the match using a pass of his teammate Akobir Turaev.
Mohammedan’s Malian recruit Souleymane Diabate missed a good number of chances but all were spoiled by Fakirerpool goalie Tayeb Siddique.

Mohammedan’s foreign recruit Mounzir Coulidiati’s header was saved by Fakirerpool Tayeb Siddique at the cost of a corner in the injury time of the second half. Thus, Mohammedan failed to draw the match with Fakirerpool.

In the day’s other match, Bangladesh Police Football Club defeated Rahmatganj MFS 2-1 at Rafique Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.

Al-Amin of Police Football Club scored two goals, while Mamoud Oshie of Rahmatganj MFS netted one goal.

Rahmatganj MFS took the fourth position in the points table gaining 15 points from nine matches, while Police Football Club took the sixth spot bagging 10 points from as many outings.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Bashundhara Kings blanked Dhaka Wanderers Club 5-0 in the day’s other match at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur on the same day.
Bashundhara’s Brazilian recruit Fernendes, Sohel Rana, Topu Barman, Rakib Hossain and their foreign recruit Miguel Ferreira scored one goal each.

Bashundhara Kings took the third position grabbing 17 points from nine matches, while Dhaka Wanderers Club took the ninth spot earning four points from as many matches.
