‘Dhaka-Sylhet Highway land issues to be resolved by Oct’

The government expects to resolve most of the land acquisition-related complications for the Dhaka-Sylhet six-lane highway project by October, while construction of the Sylhet section is expected to be completed by 2028, Commerce, Industries and Textiles & Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said on Wednesday.

The minister said the project is being implemented in phases, covering the Sylhet section as well as areas beyond the Sylhet border .He made the remarks while talking to journalists after inspecting the progress of the six-lane highway construction work in Osmaninagar, Sylhet.

According to the plans of the authorities concerned, the entire highway is expected to be completed between late 2028 and mid-2029, he said.

The Sylhet section, meanwhile, is expected to be completed by 2028, Muktadir said.
Regarding land acquisition, the minister said the process of acquiring land required for the project is ongoing.

Of the 113 cases related to land acquisition, most have already been resolved, while efforts are underway to settle the remaining cases quickly, he said.

“We hope to resolve most of the complications related to land acquisition by October,” Muktadir said.
He also said the Road Transport Minister had recently inspected the project work up to Habiganj.

Sylhet WASA Chairman Miftah Siddiqui, Sylhet Metropolitan BNP President Nasim Hossain, General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pinky Saha and other officials concerned were present during the inspection.

Earlier, the commerce minister inspected the six-lane construction work on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Lalabazar area of South Surma, Sylhet.
