‘Hasina’s trial to run despite India’s silence’

Staff Reporter  :

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Md Tajul Islam said on Sunday that the trial process of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina will continue at its own pace, despite no response from India regarding the letter sent.

He made these remarks on Sunday while responding to a question from journalists in the conference room of the tribunal.

“India had been formally requested according to the extradition agreement between the two countries.

It remains to be seen whether India will respond, but the legal and judicial process will continue at its own pace, regardless of the response,” he said.

The chief prosecutor further said the entire law enforcement apparatus is involved in the arrest process, and since the prosecution or investigative agencies are not directly involved, the details will only be clarified once the individual is brought before the tribunal.

Any explanation on this matter will be provided by the law enforcement agencies.

He said, “The prosecution team is working tirelessly, with significant progress being made. We expect reports on one or two cases in the shortest possible time.”

He explained that they receive information in various forms, and that thorough investigations involving multiple testimonies are underway, with necessary time being taken to ensure accuracy and completeness.

The chief prosecutor also confirmed that investigations into genocide and crimes against humanity are ongoing at the tribunal, and expressed hope that these details will be revealed soon.
