CoU Teachers Assoc election delayed

Farhad Hossain Himu :

The Teachers Association at Comilla University (CoU) is facing delays in holding its annual election, which was supposed to take place between December 1 and 15, according to the association’s constitution. No steps have been taken to organize the election yet, leading to criticism among the teachers.
If the election cannot be held on time due to unavoidable circumstances, the executive committee is required to convene a general meeting between December 16 and 31 to discuss the next steps.
The last election was held on February 19, 2024, where Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher from the Department of Physics was elected president and Associate Professor Mehedi Hasan from the Department of Marketing was elected general secretary. Since the formation of the Teachers Association, the pro-Awami League ‘Blue Panel’ has won all nine elections, but some teachers believe its influence has weakened since the fall of the Awami government in August 2024.
