Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

Construction and installation of Unit No. 1 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) has been completed. NPP officials have started a large-scale test program for the physical start-up, Rooppur project director and Rosatom’s media wing told The New Nation.
Project Director Dr. Jahedul Hasan said that the first phase of operation to bring the reactor plant to rated parameters has started on Wednesday (December 18). At this stage the operability of the equipment and process will be tested. The reactor coolant pump (RPC) will be started and tested for the first time. Also the reactor plant will be tested at rated parameters without nuclear fuel.
The unit will be ready for start-up operation once the compliance of the equipment with all design parameters is confirmed.
“We have entered the final preparations of Rooppur NPP Unit-1 for physical start-up,” said Andrey Petrov, First Deputy Director General of Nuclear Power at Rosatom and President of ASE. This is an important stage. Under which we must carry out a large range of work and tests to prove the functionality of the process system in all operating modes. “We fulfill all our obligations and guarantee the reliability and safety of our technology,” he added. He said that Bangladesh’s first nuclear power plant will support the country’s economy and work for future generations.
It is known that if Rooppur NPP is launched, around 10% of the total energy consumption of Bangladesh will be ensured to supply environmentally friendly and safe energy.
Context: According to the general agreement signed on December 25, 2025, Rooppur NPP is being constructed with two Russian VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW at Rooppur in Iswardi Upazila of Pabna district.
