BAU holds int’l conference on Agronomy

The two day -long 23rd national & 2nd international conference on ‘Smart Agronomy for Sustainable Crop production of Bangladesh Society of Agronomy (BSA) was held on Saturday at Syed Nazrul Islam Conference Hall in Bangladesh Agricultural University of Mymensingh. Professor Dr. A K FazlulHaque Bhuiyan, Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, was present at the inaugural session as Chief Guest, according to a press release.
Professor Dr. M. MoynulHaque, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam Sikdar, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Dr. Humnath Bhandari, IRRI Country Representative for Bangladesh and Mr. SasoMartinov, Chief Technical Advisor, FAO Viet Nam was present as Special Guests in the Inaugural Session. Noor Ahmed Khandkar President of the Bangladesh Society of Agronomy (BSA) Chaired the conference.
Mr. Abdul AwalMintoo, Chairman, LalTeer Seed Ltd & CEO, Multimode Group, Dhaka, Bangladesh & Syndicate Member, BAU was Guest of Honour in the Inaugural Session of the Conference.
At the conference, the keynote paper was presented by Dr. Debashish Chakraborty Senior Scientist, CIMMYT Dhaka, Bangladesh and Prof. Dr. Md. Romij Uddin, Head of the Department of Agronomy, gave a speech vote of thanks and a welcome speech addressed by the Member Secretary Conference Organizing Committee & General Secretary Bangladesh Society of Agronomy (BSA) Professor Dr. Md Abdul Kader.
Prof. Dr. A. K. M. Ruhul Amin of the Vice President of BSA also gave a speech on Highlight on activities of BSA.
A total of 8 technical sessions and poster sessions will be held in the workshop. This includes 100 oral and 105 poster presentations.
About 6 hundred Agricultural scientists and invited guests from USA, Australia, Vietnam, Netherlands, Japan, India, Nepal and in country participants from different universities, research institutes & different private organisations participated in the conference.
The three-day-long annual research progress workshop theme “Sustainable and resilient agriculture: The Path of a Better Future” was held virtually due to the Covid-19 situation.
Based on the H-index of research presented in the workshop, 16 researchers were awarded the Global Research Impact Recognition Award-2022.
In addition, Ashraf Ali Khan SmritiKrishi Puraskar-2022 has been distributed to four farm-level entrepreneurs.
