New DMP boss, IGP take charge

The newly appointed Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali and new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam took charge on Thursday.

The government on Wednesday appointed Sajjat Ali as the DMP Commissioner and IGP for two-year contact.

Earlier in the morning, the outgoing police commissioner Md Mainul Hasan along with his colleagues welcomed the newly appointed DMP commissioner when he arrived at the DMP headquarters where a smartly turned-out contingent of police gave him a guard of honour. Sajjat Ali joined the police service on January 21, 1986 as a cadet of 6th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), popularly known as 84 batch.

In his career in the police department, he served as an Additional Superintendent of Police (Adl.SP) at Jhenaidah, Police headquarters and the Special Branch (SB). He also served as SP in Luxmipur, Narail and Bagerhat districts and DMP.

He also worked as commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at police headquarters, Dhaka and Chottogram range and Highway Police.

Sheikh Sajjat Ali was an Additional IGP at the police headquarters and finally the government sent him on force retirement on November 3, 2016.

He was also appointed as a member of the recently formed Police Reforms Commission. He served many UN peace keeping missions and joined various training courses at home and abroad during his career.

Earlier, Dr Bahar joined the police service on January 21 in 1986 as a cadet of sixth batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), popularly known as 84th batch.

During his service life, he performed his responsibilities in many capacities including the chief of the Special Branch (SB) and Additional Inspector General at Bangladesh Police headquarters.

He worked as senior police liaison officer under peace keeping department of the United Nations from 2009 to 2013 and also served in UN Peace Keeping Force in Afghanistan as Senior Police Adviser. He also performed his duty in the UN peace keeping missions in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leon.
