MASSIVE BNP RALLY IN CAPITAL: Deposed AL allies aim to disrupt interim govt

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Friday said the cohorts of the deposed Awami League regime are still active in the country’s administration, in different positions, as well as abroad, to undermine the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led government.
“Freedom-loving people of the country should be alert of one thing, and I myself also want to remain vigilant that the conspiracy of
the anti-democratic evil forces has not stopped yet against the interim government,” he told a massive rally at Nayapaltan in the capital.
The BNP leader also urged the interim government to take effective measures to meet the expectations of the people the country.
Tarique Rahman renewed his party’s support for the interim government, saying this administration can never be allowed to fail.
“If the interim government wants to keep itself alert, it must take effective measures to fulfill the expectations of people. It is now the demand of people,” the BNP leader said.
Tarique Rahman also said that if the nationalist forces unite strongly, no one would be successful in harming the country’s liberty and sovereignty.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir presided over the event.
BNP leaders, Mirza Abbas, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and others also spoke on the occasion.
Mirza Fakhrul said everyone should be united to foil all conspiracies against our country.
“The AL have destroyed all institutions of the country to make Bangladesh a mafia state,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The patriotic soldiers and people defeated the anti-democratic forces and country’s enemies on November7, 1975 under Ziaur Rahman’s leadership.”
The people have seen another upsurge in 2024 that compelled autocrat Hasina to flee the country and take shelter in India, he added.
Later, the party brought out a massive colourful rally in the capital, marking ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
After delivering brief speeches, party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman formally inaugurated the rally around 3:30pm.
Tens of thousands of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies, wearing colourful caps, assembled at Nayapaltan since noon before joining the large-scale showdown.
Streets and alleys from Kakrail intersection to Fakirerpool and adjoining areas were packed with BNP supporters, causing traffic disruptions in the area.
The rally ended at Manik Mia Avenue, passing through Kakrail intersection, Kakrail Mosque, Matsya Bhaban, the Engineering Institution, Bangladesh Shahbagh intersection, Hotel Intercontinental, Bangla Motor, Karwan Bazar, and Farmgate.
Carrying banners, festoons, placards, and portraits of the party’s top leaders, the BNP activists were chanting slogans demanding elections and the withdrawal of cases against senior party leaders, including Tarique Rahman.
