Rupganj BCL president held with drugs

Police arrested Tanzir Ahmed Khan Riaz, president of the recently banned student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district and a suspect in multiple murder cases, with bottles of phensedyl. Riaz’s family home is in Rupsi village, Tarabo municipality, and his father is Robiul Islam Khan.
Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaqat Ali confirmed the arrest on Friday , following his apprehension at his in-laws’ house near the Rupsi sluice gate on Thursday night.
Reports suggest that locals detained Riaz and handed him over to the police. Police say Riaz faces allegations of attacking students and residents protesting against discrimination in Rupganj. He is also implicated in several murder cases filed at Rupganj Police Station, as well as in multiple charges of extortion, assault, and looting, some of which involve firearms.
