Two fresh murder cases filed against Hasina, others

Two additional murder cases have been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, in connection with the deaths of two individuals during a violent clash in Sreepur upazila, Gazipur.
The incidents, which took place in early August, have garnered significant attention due to the involvement of high-profile political figures. The cases were registered on Sunday and Monday, according to Officer-in-Charge KM Sohel Rana of Sreepur Police Station, who confirmed the information to our local correspondent.
In addition to Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, other prominent figures named in the cases include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haque Inu, and several local Awami League leaders and activists.
The first victim, Md Kabir, was the son of Abdur Rahman from Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh. Kabir had relocated to Sreepur upazila in Gazipur, where he lived with his family. The second victim, Shifat Ulla, hailed from Charkaona village in Pakundia upazila, Kishoreganj. He was a student at Jamia Islami Emdadul Uloom and Orphanage in Channapara under Sreepur municipality, where he resided in the institution’s dormitory.
Kabir’s mother, Jamila Khatun, filed one of the cases, accusing Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 84 other named individuals, along with 400-500 unidentified persons. In her complaint, she alleged that the attack on August 5 resulted in her son’s death.
The second case was filed by Shifat’s father, Hafez Maulana Nuruzzaman. He named 42 individuals, including the former Prime Minister and Minister, and 150-200 unidentified persons as responsible for the violence that claimed his son’s life.
According to police reports, the violence erupted on August 5 when two buses carrying members of the Border Guard Bangladesh were attacked and set on fire in the Mulaid area along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila. The ensuing clash between the attackers and security forces resulted in the deaths of Kabir and Shifat.
