Divisional Level project styled as Youth in Equality (SamotaeTarunnoy) inaugurated in Barishal with the objective of ensuring skill development and empowerment of youth to counter gender based stereotypes at community, media and policy levels.
The direct target population of the project in 8 divisions of Bangladesh is a total of 13 thousand 515 people. Among them are 12,690 youth members of 252 local youth-led organizations, members of the National Youth Council, social media influencers, content creators and media workers.
Barishal Sadar Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Abdul Matin Khan was present as chief guest at the project opening ceremony at the conference room of Hotel Sedona of the city on Thursday (July 04) afternoon.
Deputy directors of Youth Development Directorate BarishalShamim Chowdhury, Deputy Director of Directorate of Women Affairs BarishalMehrun Nahar Munni, Social Service Officer Zaheer Ahmed, were present as special guests of the programme.
Gender expert and coordinator Meher Afroz Mita, Nurunnahar Khushboo, content creator Pavel Munshi, Barishal Bureau chief of The Asian Age Masuk Kamal, divisional coordinator of Jago Foundation Trust Mukit Hossainspoke in the opening ceremony.
Representatives of different public and private institutions, representatives of youth-led organizations, media persons, representatives of Plan International Bangladesh, Jago Foundation Trust were also participated at the project inauguration ceremony.
Organizers of the programmesaid that the project t will involve content creators, social media influencers, media workers and play a positive role in changing negative stereotypes in the society.
They opined that a non-discrimination society can be developed only by the hands of the youth. Participants in the project will be youth and youth-led organizations, national youth councils, minority ethnic groups, youth with special needs and diversity, students-teachers, media workers (print and electronic), local young content creators and social media influencers.
