Relearning Raghu Rai revisits a legendary photographic journey
To revisit the life, memories and remarkable photographic journey of renowned photographer Raghu Rai, students of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute has organised a special exhibition titled “Relearning Raghu Rai”.
Coinciding with World Photography Day, the exhibition was inaugurated at Level 8 of Drikpath Bhavan in the capital’s Panthapath.
In the presence of photographers, artists, students, friends and visitors, the opening evening unfolded as a warm gathering of seeing, remembering, reflecting and sharing. Beyond presenting familiar photographs, the exhibition invites audiences to look more closely at the people, relationships, experiences, conversations and moments in time that shaped Rai’s work.
The exhibition offers an opportunity to revisit different stages of Rai’s long photographic journey through a fresh arrangement and perspective.
His well-known images appear in a slightly different light, encouraging viewers to discover new meanings in photographs they may have encountered before. A collection of his books further enriches the experience.
One of the highlights of the inaugural evening was renowned photographer Shahidul Alam’s presentation, “Remembering a Friend.” Drawing on years of memories, experiences and conversations with Raghu Rai, Alam shared glimpses of a deep, quiet and sincere friendship that extended beyond their shared world of photography.
Through photographs, books, memories and personal stories, “Relearning Raghu Rai” encourages viewers to engage with the celebrated photographer’s work from a fresh perspective and reflect on his distinctive way of seeing the world.
The exhibition is open to visitors from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Level 8 of Drikpath Bhavan. It will remain open until tomorrow.
