HSC exams to be halted in flood affected areas

The government has announced plans to halt the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in areas affected by or at risk of flooding.

This decision, aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of students, was revealed by Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel during a press briefing on Wednesday.

The briefing followed a meeting with the National Monitoring and Law and Order Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the examinations.

The HSC and equivalent exams are scheduled to commence on June 30. However, in regions where the flood situation worsens, exams will be postponed.

“The HSC and equivalent examinations will be held later in those areas where the flood situation will worsen,” stated the Education Minister.

Minister Nowfel emphasized the government’s awareness of weather forecasts for Sylhet and the rising water levels in various rivers during the exam period.

“We have already completed our preparations, keeping in mind the concerns about the potentially affected areas where the exam centres are located,” the minister said.

Exams will continue as scheduled in areas with a low risk of flooding. “The exams will not be halted in those areas where there are possibilities of floods.

The exams will be taken later,” he clarified.Continuous monitoring of the flood situation is underway, and the minister expressed hope that exams could proceed as scheduled.

“However, the students are our top priority. We don’t want them to suffer or face any difficulties in their results,” he added.

In addition to these measures, the education minister announced that all coaching centres nationwide would be closed from June 29 to August 11.

This 44-day shutdown aims to prevent any irregularities during the exams. “We have directed all the coaching centres nationwide to shut down for 44 days in a bid to avert any kind of irregularities during exams,” Minister Nowfel stated.

This year, a total of 1,450,790 students from nine General Education Boards, Madrasha Board, and Technical Board will participate in the HSC and equivalent exams. These students hail from 9,463 educational institutions and will take their exams at 2,275 centre
