Democracy Int’l holds roundtable meeting in Sylhet

A roundtable meeting was held by Democracy International under the title ‘Safe Roads for All’ keeping in mind the road safety of the Sylhet district. On Monday (April 29) in the hall of an elite hotel in Sobhanighat of the city, a round table meeting was organized with the members of various sections of the society, including engineers, councilors, teachers, representatives of the Transport Owners Association, members of the Multiparty Advocacy Forum.
At the beginning of this round table meeting held with UKAID and funding, Md Korban Ali, Deputy Director of Democracy International, gave a welcome speech highlighting the objectives of the program.
Among the issues that come up in the discussion on ensuring safe roads are: Inadequate traffic signal system, sidewalk encroachment, free movement of vehicles without fitness, lack of adequate parking system in the city, above all lack of citizen awareness and various service organizations of the government especially City Corporation, BRTA, Traffic The need for coordination between control departments.
As a next step, it was decided to present the said issues to the concerned authorities in collaboration with the Multiparty Advocacy Forum (MAF). Along with this, a plan to organize a workshop in the City Corporation was accepted at the initiative of MAF.
Sylhet City Corporation Supervising Engineer Md Ali Akbar, Sylhet District BNP Vice President Samia Begum, District Awami League Organizing Secretary Saiful Alam Ruhel, Metropolitan BNP Former Organizing Secretary Morshed Ahmad Mukul, District Women League President Advocate Salma Sultana were present as panelists in the round table meeting. Mahanagar Mahila League President Shahnara Begum, Sylhet Leading University Civil Engineering Department Zafar Ahmed Limon, Law Department Lecturer Sabera Sultana, Senior Regional Manager Mohammad Naimur Rahman, Regional Manager Rahima Begum, Electoral Program Associate Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury also attend here.
