Science fictions draw book-lovers at Ekushey Mela

The Ekushey Boi Mela on Monday witnessed huge turn up of book-lovers and a very good sale book in most of the stalls, publishers said as the fair was drawing close.
The books on science fiction drew the attention of the youths on the day, Students from schools, colleges and universities assembled there in large number to buy science fiction books.
A K M Tariqul Islam Roni, Publisher of Tamrolipi Prokashani, told The New Nation that the demand for science fictions is high. The youths, mostly students, come to the Boi Mela and buy the books on science fiction.
“The youths search the books of reputed science fictions. The sale of the books is satisfactory,” Tariqul Islam said.
Popular science fiction writer and columnist Muhammad Zafar Iqbal said that the Boi Mela would be a new platform to cheer up students about science fictions.
Zafar Iqbal also said that Zihad, who fell in an abandoned borehole, was recovered by some young science-lovers though the matured ones couldn’t trace him. “Science fiction is a new form of literature and the new generation accepts this,’ he added.
“I feel good to read the books of science fiction. I have read the world’s noted science fiction’s books. I have bought four books on science fiction named Shirina by Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Dhuppur
Janggole Alien by Ahsan Habib, Ditio Prithibi and Project Hiper by Mostaque Ahmed today,” said Khan Mohammad Golam Rabbani, a Science Faculty student of Dhaka University.
Meanwhile, the Bangla Academy premises and the Suhrawardy Udyan were teeming with visitors. Long queues changed the scenario and it took time for them to enter the Boi Mela.
It was the busiest day for the publishers as huge number of people crowded in front of the each and every stall of the Boi Mela. The sale of books was also satisfactory, the publishers said.
Nasir Uddin Ahmed Selim, Publisher of Kakoli Prokashani, said that the sale of books was better than other day.
On the other hand, sixty three new books arrived at Amar Ekushey Boi Mela on the 23rd day. Seven new books also were unveiled on Nazrul Mancha of the Bangla Academy.
Of the new books, five are storybooks, 10 novels, four essay books, 18 poems, two on children literature, two on Liberation War, three on history, one on politics, one on religion, two on science fiction and 19 books on other subjects.
The discussion on titled “Sobujpotrer Sotobarsho” was held in the main podium of the Bangla Academy in the afternoon.
Professor Golam Murshid presided over the programme, while Abul Momen presented the keynote paper. Professor Sowvik Reza and Abdul Alim took part there.
A fascination cultural programme was held in the evening.
