‘People reject BNP due to its negative politics’

Staff Reporter :
In a statement to the media on Sunday, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader criticised the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), highlighting the party’s struggle to engage the populace in their movement, leading to a politically tumultuous situation.

Quader, also serving as the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, pointed out that the people of the country have consistently rejected BNP due to its negative politics, refusing to respond to their anti-government calls.

His remarks were prompted by recent comments from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, urging the public to challenge the state machinery, which Quader condemned as indicative of internal disarray within the BNP.

According to Quader, BNP leaders have lost their rationality and are sinking into deep distress, portraying them as adversaries of the nation, state, and its people. He emphasised the public’s rejection of the BNP’s negative politics, suggesting that the party seeks to revive its past era of misrule.

Highlighting the achievements under the Awami League government, Quader underscored the country’s progress and positive changes, contrasting them with the BNP’s alleged attempts to sow confusion among the populace.

Quader challenged Fakhrul’s assertion that the present government dismantled BNP’s achievements, questioning BNP’s contribution to the nation’s development and people’s welfare.

Quader criticised BNP’s founder, Ziaur Rahman, for introducing a politics of conspiracy, abduction, and undermining democracy.

He accused the military dictator of stifling opposition parties and perpetuating corruption during the BNP’s tenure, claiming that Bangladesh became infamous for corruption under BNP-Jamaat rule.

The AL leader accused BNP of exploiting state institutions for personal gain, institutionalising corruption, and achieving nothing positive during their governance. Quader reiterated the relentless efforts of the current AL government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to work for the people’s welfare.

Quader concluded by asserting that the Awami League has earned the responsibility to govern for four consecutive terms, reflecting the will of the people.
