5 madrasa students injured in Kalkini blast

A bomb exploded near Gopalpur Darussunnah Women’s Madrasa in Kalkini, Madaripur, on Saturday morning, injuring five students.

The injured were rescued and taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex and Madaripur District Sadar Hospital for treatment. One of the injured students was reportedly in critical condition.

The incident sparked panic across the upazila. After being informed, police from Kalkini Police Station and members of other law enforcement agencies visited the scene.

Officer-in-Charge of Kalkini Police Station Mohammad Zahirul Alam said police visited the scene after learning about the explosion.”We are investigating the incident,” he said.

After receiving the news, Additional Police Super of Madaripur and other law enforcement personnel also rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. Police have been deployed there.

Additional Superintendent of Police Faria Rafiq Bhabna said, “We have visited the scene and are collecting evidence. An investigation is underway to determine how the cocktail came there and who was behind the incident.”

According to police and local residents, the explosion occurred in front of the house of local resident Emon Sardar, adjacent to the madrasa, on Saturday morning.

The injured students were identified as Abida, 8, Jannat, 9, Minha, 10, and Maimuna, 9. Another student was also injured in the blast.

Emon Sardar said, “I cannot say exactly how the bomb exploded in front of my house.”

Hafizur Rahman, superintendent of the madrasa, said “A bomb suddenly exploded at the madrasa, injuring around five students. The entire area was startled by the incident.”
