Huamn chain demands opening of Tarapur tea garden

Bangladesh Tea Workers Federation Sylhet district branch organized a human chain and protest rally at in front of the central Shaheed Minar in Chowhatta Sylhet on Saturday (March 2) to demand immediate opening of Tarapur tea garden accepting the demands of the agitating tea workers.

Bangladesh Tea Workers Federation Sylhet District President Ratna Basak Presided over the human chain. Samajtantrik Sramik Front Sylhet convenor Abu Zafar, Bangladesh Tea Sramik Federation Central Advisor Pranab Jyoti Pal, Zaheed Ahmad of Samajtantrik Sramik Front Tuhin Ahmad of Rickshaw-Battery Rickshaw-Van and Easybike Sangram Parishad, Prajapati Das of Bangladesh Tea Workers Federation, Dilip Halder, Maina Karmkar also spoke the human chain.

Speakers in the human chain said that it is difficult for tea workers to run their families on a daily wage of 170 taka; then one can easily imagine the miserable life of the workers of Tarapur tea garden which has been closed for about one and a half months.

The speakers supported the workers’ movement of Tarapur tea plantations and urged them to accept the demands and open the plantation immediately.
