BNP plans to destabilise country: AL

Staff Reporter :
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader has accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of actively working to implement a master plan aimed at destroying the country’s democratic foundation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Quader asserted that the BNP, since its inception, has shown a lack of faith in democracy and elections.

Quader alleged that BNP was formed unconstitutionally and illegally by military dictator Ziaur Rahman, who seized state power and established the party within an army camp.

According to Quader, BNP has consistently engaged in politics that undermine the democratic rights of the people, imposing restrictions on political freedoms and resorting to brutal tactics against the common citizens.

“Babbling about democracy and good governance doesn’t befit BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir,” Quader stated, asserting that Fakhrul’s actions have been inconsistent with principles of democracy and good governance.

Quader further accused Fakhrul of being involved in terrorist politics, asserting that he is a sponsor of militancy and extremism. Referring to historical incidents, Quader claimed that BNP was behind the gruesome grenade attacks on August 21, 2004, the serial bomb attacks on August 17, 2005, and the importation of arms resulting in the burning alive of innocent people.

The AL General Secretary dismissed allegations of indiscriminate arrest and harassment by law enforcement agencies, stating that the arrest of terrorists and BNP cadres is in line with their duty to bring perpetrators to justice. Quader emphasised that BNP has been recognized as a terrorist organization by an international court.

Quader praised the efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, stating that Bangladesh, under her leadership, has set an exemplary example in preventing terrorism and militancy. He asserted that the country has established security for the lives and properties of its citizens, providing them with a higher standard of living.

“We are committed to working for the peace, security, and prosperity of the people at any cost,” Quader affirmed, highlighting the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of the citizens.
