Staff Reporter :
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has announced the reassignment of nine of its envoys stationed abroad as their terms are concluding due to retirement or contract expiration.
In distinct directives, the MoFA has instructed these diplomats to return to Dhaka after relinquishing their current duties.
The office orders stated, “You are hereby transferred to headquarters.” The officials receiving these orders include Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada; Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany; Md Monirul Islam, Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy; Sultana Laila Hossain, Bangladesh Ambassador to Poland; Major General Md Ashikuzzaman, Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait; Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Offices and other International Organisations in Geneva; Shahabuddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan; Mohammed Abdul Hye, Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand; and Ashud Ahmed, Bangladesh Ambassador to Greece.
Sources from the foreign ministry disclosed that the government is set to initiate the process of appointing new envoys for these nine diplomatic missions. A letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed by Director General DM Salah Uddin on February 25, communicated, “You have been reassigned to the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka.”
It further instructed, “You are requested to immediately cease your duties at the Bangladesh High Commission in Ottawa and return to Dhaka.” The letter also mentioned that the envoys and their family members would be entitled to travel expenses and other benefits. On January 16, Khalilur Rahman, the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada, expressed his views via a Facebook post criticizing the anti-liberation elements within the foreign ministry.
