Old parts of Santahar Silo sold breaching tender laws

Adamdighi (Bogura) Correspondent :

An allegation has been made against the Silo Superintendent of Santahar at Adamdighi, Bogura, for supplying old parts without weight to the contractor. According to the tender, approximately 8 tons of goods of 19 types of parts are to be supplied, but 35-40 tons of goods stored in the warehouse for ten years have been supplied without any weight. After this news came to light, the locals called upon the concerned authorities to look into the matter. According to the investigation, recently the tender process was completed from the office of the district food controller for the useless parts of the Santahar silo.
The tender mentions 19 types of goods such as GI pipe in kg, jeep batteries in number, scrap material, culvert belt, bamboo and timber in tonne. And the price of these goods is only 95 thousand 585 taka. The contractor Rezaul Karim Dablu got this job. The process of delivering the goods to the contractor started last Tuesday. The contractor is seen delivering the goods till Friday (February 16).
Meanwhile, Silo Superintendent Md. Shahriar has been accused of breaking all the rules and supplying these useless parts which are tendered without weight. Contractors transport these goods with their own laborers and trucks through special guard. An official of the silo, who did not want to be named, said that according to the rules, the empty truck of the contractor must first weigh the measuring device (scale) of the silo.
After that, the cargo truck should be weighed again and handed over to the committee with the signature of the concerned officer to deliver the goods to the contractor. According to that rule, several employees of the silo requested the silo superintendent to weigh the truck and declare the goods. But he (Silo Superintendent) delivers the goods without weighing.
When asked, store assistant silo operative Masud Rana admitted that the delivery was not weighed and said that the goods were delivered according to the estimated weight of the tender. Besides, there is a list of 19 types of useless goods, but 18 types of goods are supplied. According to the list only those old goods of ten years back are supplied.
And the newly collected goods are stored in the warehouse. When asked about the use of outside workers in the protected area, he said, the contractor company brought their own workers, but later on, they worked with some silo workers. Silo operative Sanjay Kumar said, useless goods are not weighed. The goods that the committee had indicated were supplied.
Contractor Rezaul Karim Dablu said, “I cannot take goods outside the rules. According to the tender, I have understood the goods from the authorities. When asked about the supply without weight, Silo Superintendent of Santahar Md Shaharyar. Salauddin said that these complaints are baseless and cut the phone connection.
Bogra District Food Control Officer Kazi Saifuddin said that after completing all the processes of the tender, RC Food has given approval. Goods numbered in the tender should be taken by number and weight of goods by weight. There is a committee to implement the tender and that committee has listed the goods. But I don’t know if he (Silo Superintendent) lists the goods separately.
