US promises $500,000 for Nepal flood relief

The United States Department of State has announced USD 500,000 in immediate humanitarian assistance to support disaster response and relief efforts following devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi river.

In an official statement released by the Office of the Spokesperson, the US government extended its deepest condolences to the victims and families affected by the disaster.

The State Department confirmed that the USD 500,000 allocation will be mobilized through its global partner, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), to deliver critical emergency shelter, basic relief items, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) assistance to hard-hit communities.

To strengthen ground support, the US State Department is deploying a disaster response advisor to the region to assist local authorities in coordinating immediate relief operations.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Kathmandu is coordinating with Nepali security and local authorities to track and assist American citizens in the affected areas.

The embassy urged US nationals needing urgent assistance to reach out via KathmanduACS@state.gov, closely follow safety guidance from local officials, and register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
