PM takes firm stand against extortion

Abu Jakir :
In an effort to address the soaring prices of essentials, Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has issued directives to her party members, urging them to refrain from engaging in extortion, particularly within the transport sector.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need to cease extortion collection, combat hoarding, and prevent illegal profiteering, with a specific focus on the transportation and wholesale markets.

During an extended meeting of the Awami League at her official residence, Ganabhaban, Sheikh Hasina urged her party’s rank and file as well as local government representatives from various districts to actively monitor and ensure fair pricing for farmers.

Addressing the issue of non-partisan upazila elections, Sheikh Hasina highlighted the scrutiny of the achievements and shortcomings of the past 15 years in power.

She stressed the importance of public acceptance and expressed a commitment to avoiding conflicts.

Those found responsible for any wrongdoing will be held accountable for their actions, she stated.

The President of the Awami League acknowledged the rift among grassroots leaders and workers following the January 7 general elections.

The competition between party-nominated candidates and independent candidates resulted in numerous differences and issues, both within and independently of the party.

Sheikh Hasina urged a collaborative approach to move forward, maintaining the trust and faith of the people.

The central committee is ready to address identified issues, but she emphasized the importance of avoiding self-destructive conflicts.

Commenting on the transparency of the 12th parliamentary election, Sheikh Hasina, who secured her fourth consecutive term as Bangladesh Premier, asserted that the election was free, fair, and neutral.

She challenged those questioning the election to provide clear evidence in favor of their claims, emphasizing the impartiality of public administration, armed forces, and law and order forces involved in the election process.

Sheikh Hasina disclosed that she observed a significant conspiracy surrounding the 12th general election aimed at discouraging voters and casting doubt on the fairness of the election.

She underscored her commitment to an open election to ensure competitiveness and voters’ rights. Sheikh Hasina called for unity, urging everyone to set aside enmities arising from the parliamentary election and work together.

She assured that the central committee is ready to resolve any problems that may arise but stressed the need to avoid internal conflicts that could be detrimental.

On the Saturday’s meeting, the attendees were including members from the party’s national committee, central working committee, advisory council, as well as presidents and general secretaries of district, city, upazila, thana, and municipality levels.

Lawmakers of the Awami League, independent zilla and upazila parishad mayors, and leaders of the central committee of AL associate bodies were also present.
