Shun violence to have talks, says HT Imam

Prime Minister’s political adviser HT Imam on Saturday said those who have created the crisis in the country should spare the general people from violence first to engage in dialogue.
“Still, it’s not certain that there’ll be a dialogue in the future unless BNP shifts from its stance of ‘the palm tree is mine,” he said.
HT Imam came up with the remarks at the 103rd episode of the BBC Sanglap at Biam Auditorium here as other panelists stressed holding a dialogue among political parties to break the
country’s current political stalemate. BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain said dialogue is the only way to resolve the crisis and the government has to take initiatives to arrange the talks.
HT Imam also said the country’s people will say when and how to arrange the dialogue. Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Hossain Khaled said only dialogue can make the country stable.
Expressing his concern, Khandker Mahbub said the country may plunge into a civil war if the political problems are not resolved politically. “Not only a civil war will begin but the country’s existence will be at stake.”
Replying to a question from the audience about resolving the current crisis, he said BNP will withdraw the ongoing hartal-blockade if the government returns the voting rights of people and declare an election under the caretaker government.
