30 injured in clash over road construction

News Desk :
At least 30 people, including a police sub-inspector, were injured during a clash over road construction in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj on Friday morning.

On receiving information, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control by firing 24 rounds of tear shells.

The injured were admitted to local Baniachong Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Modern Sadar Hospital.

Police and locals said that on January 5, Rubel Mia, son of Mijaz Ali from Rajbari, initiated the construction of a road by using an excavator to fill soil in the location claimed by the residents of Hukura Mohalla in Shibpasha.

Since there is a government road adjacent to it, the residents of Hukura Mohalla obstructed the construction of the road.

The dispute was expected to be resolved through an arbitration meeting after the parliamentary elections.

However, a few days ago, when Hukura Mohalla residents requested Rubel Mia not to proceed with the road construction, he refused.
On Friday morning, individuals from both sides locked into a clash involving local weapons.

The altercation, lasting around an hour and a half, resulted in injuries to at least 30 people from both parties, including Sub Inspector Fazlur Karim of the Shibpasha Police Outpost.

Ajmiriganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Dalim Ahmed said: “A feud arose between the two parties over the construction of the road. After receiving the information, we went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
