BPL Cricket: Chattogram defeat Sylhet

Chattogram Challengers defeated Sylhet Strikers by seven wickets in their first match of the Ispahani Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Friday.

Batting first Sylhet Strikers notched up a massive 177 for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, Chattogram Challengers romped home making 180 for the loss of three wickets when they had nine balls to spare.

Chattogram had a sorrow start as opener Tanzid Hasan (2) was dismissed by Richard Ngarava when Chattogram’s score was just 14.

Opener Avishka Fernando and one-down Imranuzzaman repaired the damage adding together 43 runs in the second wicket stand before Fernando was bowled out by Nazmul Islam when Chattogram’s total was 57 for the loss of two wickets.

Fernando hit a sparkle 39. He hit seven fours and a sixer in his 23-ball knock.
One-down Imranuzzan (11) was caught at the deep midwicket by Yasir Ali off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when Chattogram’s score was 59 for the loss of three wickets.

Second-down Shahadat Hossain and third-down Najibullah Zadran built another notable partnership adding together 121 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.

Shahadat remained unbeaten with 57 runs, while Zadran remained unbeaten with 61 runs.

Sylhet Strikers had a formidable start as openers Mohammad Mithun and Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed together 67 runs in the opening stand before Shanto was dismissed by Nihaduzzaman.

Shanto scored 36 from 30 deliveries featuring seven fours. After dismissal of Shanto, Mohammad Mithun and one-down Zakir Hasan added together 28 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mohammad Mithun was caught behind by wicketkeeper Imran Uzzaman off Cartis Campher when Sylhet’s score was 95 for the loss of two wickets.

Mithun, the wicketkeeper-batter cracked a worthy 40. His 28-ball innings was studded with four fours and two sixes.

After Mithun’s dismissal, Zakir Hasan and Herry Tector put up together 82 runs for the unbroken third wicket stand before Sylhet’s Innings came to an end.

Zakir remained unbeaten with 70 runs. His 43-ball windy innings ornamented with seven fours and a sixer.

Herry remained unbeaten with 20-ball 26 runs including two fours.
Nihaduzzaman and Campher took one wicket each conceding 31 and 35 runs respectively.
