Eye specialist Prof Saleh Uddin dies

Renowned eye specialist Professor Dr Saleh Uddin died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in the city’s United Hospital.
He was 79.

The deceased left behind wife, one son, three daughters, grandchildren, relatives, a huge number of students and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Family sources said Prof. Saleh Uddin was a former chairman of Ophthalmology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and dean of Faculty of Surgery and Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh.

He was also a former chairman of Bangladesh Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr Saleh Uddin served as the department chief of Chattogram Medical College, Rangpur Medical College and Sylhet Medical College. He had received higher training from the University of New South Wales and the University of Dundee.

Dr. Saleh Uddin was born in Gaffargaon Upazila of Mymensingh district.

His first Namaz-e-janaza was held on Tuesday at Monipuripara of Farmgate area in the capital after Magrib prayers. The second janaza of the deceased will be held today (Wednesday) on the premises of BSMMU (former PG Hospital) after Zohr prayers and the third one at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers. The last janaza over, he will be laid to eternal rest beside the grave of his mother in the capital’s Banani Graveyard.
