36-hour blockade: 7 cops including OC hurt in police-BNP clashes in Ctg

At least seven members of police, including an OC, were injured in Chattogram and Bagura on Wednesday during two separate clashes between police and supporters of the 36-hour blockade enforced by the BNP and other political parties.

In Chattogram, at least four police personnel, including the OC of Anwara Police Station were injured in a clash with BNP activists in Anwara upazila.

The injured policemen were identified as Sohel Ahmed, chief of Anwara Police Station, Inspector Mohiuddin Ahmed, Naik Noziur Rahman, and Constable Bijoy Keton.

Anwara Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mohammad Mamunur Rashid said OC Sohel was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

He was sent to an ophthalmologist in the city after initial treatment,” he added.

Mohammad Mohiuddin, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Anwara police station, said, “Some people under the banner of BNP, Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal blocked the road in front of Shashi Community Center and vandalised some vehicles.”

“They also attacked the police. Four people, including the OC, were injured.”

Two people have been detained in this connection, he added.

Meanwhile, three policemen, including an SI, were reportedly injured in a cocktail blast fired from a rally in support of the blockade at Gabtali in Bogra. The incident took place on Wednesday noon in Tinmatha Mor area of the upazila. At this time, the police seized two unexploded cocktails.

The injured policemen are SI Abdul Quddus, ASI Enamul Haque and ASI Jaydev Kumar Saha of Gabtali Model Police Station. They are being treated at Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.

Gabtali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to the media.
