Islami Bank offers smart phone for Bangla QR transaction

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC Chairman Mohammad Zahir Hussain inaugurates a nationwide campaign to popularise Bangla QR transactions, alongside Acting Managing Director Md. Altaf Hossain, Additional Managing Director Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder, and senior executives of the bank, during a ceremony held recently.

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC inaugurated a campaign aimed at popularizing Bangla QR nationwide on Thursday.

50 customers and 50 merchants who make or receive payments using Islami Bank’s Bangla QR will have the opportunity to win smartphones, according to a media release.

Md. Altaf Hossain, Managing Director (Acting) presided over the progrmam.

Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder, Additional Managing Director was present as a special guest while Dr. M Kamal Uddin Jasim, Additional Managing Director delivered the welcome speech.

Md. Maznuzzaman, Executive Vice President discussed on Bangla QR and QR-based secured statements.

Md. Mahboob Alam, Mahmudur Rahman, Md Rafiqul Islam, Muhammad Sayeed Ullah and Md Maksudur Rahman, Deputy Managing Directors along with other senior executives of the bank were present on the occasion.

In addition, heads of zone and branches and sub-branch in-charges were connected through virtual platform. The campaign will continue from August 23 to September 30, 2026.

In his speech as the chief guest, Mohammad Zahir Hossain said, Bangla QR is a new addition of Bangladesh Bank’s digital payment system. It is an important initiative to make digital transactions in the country easier, safer, and more accessible to all.

Islami Bank has always been working to bring customers and marginalized communities under banking services through the expansion of technology-driven financial services, while also working to enable expatriate Bangladeshis to send remittances more quickly, easily, and securely. Expanding the use of Bangla QR will enable people in remote areas and small businesses to easily access the benefits of digital transactions. This will further strengthen financial inclusion and play an important role in building a modern, cashless, and Smart Bangladesh.

He called for Bangla QR to be viewed not merely as a technology-based service, but as one of the key foundations for strengthening financial inclusion, the digital economy, and the economic participation of marginalized communities in the country.

In his presidential speech, Md. Altaf Hossain, Managing Director (Acting) of the bank, said, Islami Bank has been continuously working to expand technology-driven and customer-friendly banking services.

Islami Bank has taken initiatives to bring a greater number of merchants, including small and medium-sized businesses as well as people in remote and marginalized areas, under Bangla QR through the bank’s extensive network of branches, sub-branches, and agent banking outlets.

He called upon the bank’s officials and employees across all zones, branches, sub-branches, and relevant departments, as well as merchants and customers, to ensure active participation in expanding the use of Bangla QR, the release adds.
