SC suspends half-day proceedings to show respect to Barrister Mainul

The Supreme Court suspended half-day proceedings of both the divisions of the highest court in honour of Barrister Mainul Hosein on Sunday.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan after consultation with the other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday suspended half-day proceedings of both the divisions of the highest court in honour of Barrister Mainul Hosein.
In the morning, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice announced that the apex court would not continue proceedings of its second-half session from 11.00 am to 1.30 pm.
He also gave a similar announcement before a namaz-e-janaza that was held on the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) premises after the Zuhr prayers that the High Court benches would also not hold proceedings of their second-half session from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
After the namaz-e-janaza on the SCBA premises, floral wreaths had been placed on his coffin on behalf of the Chief Justice, Attorney General Office and Supreme Court Bar Association.
Floral wreaths were also placed on behalf of Mainul Hosein and Company, United Lawyers’ Forum, Barishal Divisional Association, Barishal Division Lawyers’ Association, The Daily Ittefaq, The New Nation and Mainul Hosein and Company Employees.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, Appellate Division’s Justice M Enayetur Rahim, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique, High Court Division’ Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif, Justice J B M Hassan, Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder, Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam attended the the namaz-e-janaza.
Former Minister and incumbent Member of Parliament Anwar Hossain Manju, senior jurist Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, former Attorney General A F Hassan Ariff, Additional Attorney General SM Munir, SCBA President Md Momtazuddin Fakir, former SCBA President Zainul Abedin, SCBA Secretary Abdun Nur Dulal, former SCBA Secretary Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan, among others, were also present in the janaza.
During a short speech, Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan said, “When our Judiciary plunged into a crisis during the regime of H M Ershad and High Court Benches were installed at different places, then he (Barrister Mainul) made important contribution along with Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed and other senior lawyers in the 8th Amendment of Constitution case.”
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin said Barrister Mainul Hosein was a lawyer-friendly man.
He always stood by the lawyers in different crises, added the Attorney General.
SCBA Presiden Momtazuddin Fakir said Tofazzal Hossain Manik Miah and his two sons, Barrister Mainul Hosein and Anwar Hossain Manju, have made huge contributions to the nation.
Barrister Mainul played a vital role in the separation of the judiciary in the country, added the SCBA President.
