AL- backed candidates get majority in Nilphamari Bar Assoc polls

The bi-annual election of district Bar Association in Nilphamari was held peacefully on Thursday amid enthusiasm and excitement as 23 candidates vie for 14 posts in support of major political parties Awami League (AL) and left leaning parties in one hand and BNP and Jamaat-e- Islami party in other hand.
As the result declared at 8.30 p m of the day, it was evident that Awami League and left parties backed candidates got clean majority by bagging 8 posts out of 14 including president post.
While BNP and Jamaat supported candidates won in 6 posts along with General Secretary post.
In the post of president, AL and left parties backed advocate Alimuddin Basunia becomes winner defeating BNP and Jamaat backed candidate advocate Abdul Wahab Chowdhury.
The other seven posts secured by AL and left parties backed candidates are assistant secretary, library secretary, treasurer, secretary for religion, culture and social welfare and three executive members posts.
In general secretary post, BNP-Jamaat backed candidate advocate Abu Md Soyem won as general secretary defeating AL- left parties backed candidate Akkhoy Kumar Roy.
The other five posts secured by BNP- Jamaat backed candidates are vice president and four posts of executive members.
Returning officer of the election advocate Abu Sayed Md Ataur Rahman informed that voting was held at the hall room of the association office at the judge court premises which started from 9 a.m and continued at a stretch till 4.00 p.m.
