Verdict in graft case against Mirza Abbas deferred to Dec 12

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed December 12 to deliver the verdict in a case filed against BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information about his assets.
Special Judge Court-6 Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka passed the order on Thursday as the verdict was not ready to pronounce.
Earlier, on November 22, the court fixed Thursday for delivering the verdict following the completion of argument on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and accused.
The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed defense plea to produce defense witnesses. The Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas’ bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him.
The ACC on August 16 of 2007, filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 7.54 crore and concealing information about his wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.
ACC Assistant Director Md Khairul Huda after investigation, filed charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 4.23 crore.
The court on June 16 of 2008, framed charges against BNP leader Mirza Abbas.
