DMP arrests 482 in 24-hour anti-crime drives across Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 482 people and filed 32 cases during 24-hour anti-crime drives across the capital until Saturday morning, recovering drugs, fake currency, gold jewellery and electronic devices.

The arrests were made by different divisions of the metropolitan police as part of regular crime-control operations, according to a DMP statement.

Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 119 people detained, followed by Uttara with 59, Motijheel with 57, Tejgaon with 56 and Wari with 55.

Ramna and Lalbagh divisions each arrested 44 people, while Gulshan arrested 39. The Detective Branch made nine arrests during the period.

The operations also resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics.

Police recovered 13,914 yaba tablets, 913 grams of heroin and 32 kilograms of cannabis during the drives. Besides narcotics, officers recovered gold jewellery and fake notes worth Tk 16,000.

The police also seized nine mobile phone sets, three laptops, two CPUs, two tablets and 55 SIM cards.
A total of Tk 2.68 lakh in cash was also recovered during the operations.

The DMP statement said 32 cases were filed in connection with the anti-crime drives.
