Israel must accept an independent Palestine
Historically, Israel is an occupier state in the Middle East. This settler colonial state began in 1948 when United Nations Resolution 181 proposed to divide Palestinian territory between the Arabs and Jewish people.
The British decided to accommodate the Jews who were roving around the world since the massacres of Jewish people by the Hitler regime in Germany, Poland and Soviet Union from 1939 to 1945.
The Jewish lobby in the United States is very strong indeed. The former Bangladesh Ambassador to USSR and Burma late Syed Nazmuddin Hashim wrote to me that he was very unpopular in New York for telling the New York Times that there was no free press since the Nabia debate in UNESCO lasting for a month got four lines while Jewish campaign on behalf of Soviet Jewish dissidents got full page spread.
Francesca Albaneese, UN Special Rapporteur, called for immediate ceasefire while mentioning that Palestinians are in a grave danger of mass ethnic cleansing.
She said that the international community must prevent and protect Palestinian population from the atrocities by Israel.
Meanwhile, UN on November 16 urged the international community to exert maximum pressure upon Israel to end the fighting in Gaza and stated the situation in Gaza points to a genocide in the making since half of all civilian infrastructure has been destroyed as a result of Israel’s bombing campaign to eliminate Hamas.
The UN also called for immediate release of Palestinian prisoners and deploying UN forces in the West Bank and Gaza strip.
It is high time that the international community pressurized Israel for accepting independence of Palestine.
