UNDP- JICA discussion with SCC

A separate discussion meeting was held with the Sylhet City Corporation and the delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UNDP on Saturday (November 25). Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury chaired these separate meetings in the SCC meeting room. At 12:30 noon, a discussion meeting was held with the Sylhet City Corporation and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on flood control and drainage system of the city.
In the meeting, there was a wide discussion about dealing with flood in Sylhet and various problems of water drainage in the city. Meanwhile, JICA expressed interest in dealing with floods in Sylhet and improving the city’s drainage system. SCC Mayor Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury welcomed their interest and said SCC agreed to work with JICA.
JICA Bangladesh Chief Representative Isiguchi Tommodi, Reporter Aussie, Cameraman Thomaoshi, Local Councilor AKM Moinuddin, JICA Programmer Anisuzzaman Chowdhury were present in the meeting. Earlier, the JICA delegation came to the Sylhet City Corporation, Mayor Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury welcomed them with flowers and gifted them traditional Sylhet tea.
Meanwhile, on Saturday (November 25) at 9:30 a.m., a delegation of UNDP held an exchange of views in the SCC meeting room. In the discussion meeting on dealing with the earthquake in Sylhet and the next steps to be taken, it was emphasized to take necessary measures to prevent the earthquake including construction of houses in accordance with the building code in Sylhet city. Apart from this, pre-earthquake preparations and post-earthquake preparations are also discussed.
Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury presided over the meeting. Additional Secretary of Disaster Management Directorate Atiqul Haq, former Joint Secretary of UNDP Abendu Shekhar Roy, Chief Executive Officer of CCIC Fahima Yasmin, Chief Engineer Noor Azizur Rahman, Chief Revenue Officer Matiur Rahman Khan, Chief Property Officer Biswajit Deb, all supervisors were present in the meeting.
