Rice price in Ishwardi increases

The price of rice has increased by Tk 2-8 per kg in Jayanagar Mokam of Ishwardi within a week. The impact of this has gone to the local retail market. The price of rice in the retail market has also increased up to Tk 10 per kg. Traders say, now is the time to grow new paddy in the marginal season. When new paddy comes to the market, the price will decrease. Coarse rice is mostly grown in the Aman season except for two varieties. But the prices of Basmati, Nazirshail, Miniket, Atash paddy rice grown in Boro season have increased in the market. Rice traders who are aware of the rise in rice prices say that a class of high profiteers have inadvertently increased the prices of rice and paddy due to marginal opportunities and the ongoing political situation in the country.
It is known that more Basmati, Nazirshail, Miniket, Atash paddy rice is cultivated in Boro season. These are known as thin rice. And during the ongoing Amon season, Swarna, Guti Swarna, 49, 51, Bina-7 and Katari (Sampa or Tumpa Katari) rice is cultivated. Among these Bina-7 and Katari (Sampa or Tumpa Katari) are thin rice paddies.
At Jayanagar Mokam, it is known that there is no coarse rice in the market except some 49 and 51 at this moment. The price of a 50 kg bag of thirty nine varieties of rice has increased from 2 thousand 300 to 2 thousand 600 taka, 50 kg miniket from 3 thousand taka to 3 thousand 400 taka, Basmati from 3 thousand 200 taka to 3 thousand 600 taka. In the retail market, 49 and 51 varieties of rice are being sold at Tk 46-48 per kg and Nazirshail at Tk 68 per kg at Tk 74-75 per kg.
Rezaul Islam, a retailer in the market, said that the price of all types of rice has suddenly increased within ten days. During the Aman season, the government has announced that it will buy rice at the price of Tk 44 per kg, increased from Tk 42 to Tk 42 recently for procurement of food warehouses. Since then the price is increasing.
Manjurul Alam, the owner of Saadat Traders in Joynagar Mokam, said that this time of Aman paddy growth is called marginal time.
