Shahzadpur potters leaving ancestor’s profession

In Narina Palpara village of Shahzadpur Upazila of Sirajganj, the potters have maintained their grandfather’s traditional profession of pottery through great financial difficulties.
70 years old widow woman Sumitra Pal is very skilled in her profession making five khola, seven khola, curd khuti, jhajuri, earthen pitcher, bathroom chak in her mind.
In response to a question, he said, since childhood, father has been holding grandfather’s profession.
All his sons, daughters and grandchildren are involved in this profession.
They made various potteries such as Hari Patil, Kasha, Sharai, Til Ghasna, Karai Dhakna, Khada, Milk Bottle, Earthen Bank, Small children’s toys like elephants, horses, dolls, toy sticks, peppercorns, etc. They make various toys for small children and sell them in various bazaars.
Sumitra’s daughter Purnima Rani Pal said, I have seen many ups and downs in life, many people have achieved sky-high success by doing business. And we only made things made of clay. We cannot go into any other profession to keep the tradition of our father and grandfather in the service of people.
Bancha Kumar Pal said, “Nowadays, people are not using pottery products much because instead of making clay products, aluminum and plastic products are available very easily.
As a result of the use of aluminum and plastic everywhere, various diseases have arisen. Where there is no danger of any harm to people if they use things made of clay.
Therefore, I humbly request to Sarkar Bahadur to help lakhs of pottery workers across the country to save their industry by taking appropriate measures to keep this pottery alive.
