EC directs to halt issuing VGD cards before election

The Election Commission (EC) directed to the concern authority not to issue Vulnerable Group Development card popularly known as VGD card before 12th parliamentary election.

A letter was issued signed by Md. AtiurRahman, Deputy Secretary (Election Management -2) to secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

The letter said that the 12th parliamentary polls will be held at January 7, 2024.

According to political party and candidate code of conduct act 2008 after announcing the polls schedule and until the publication of election results in the official gazetteany government beneficiary very important person declares or allocates any kind of grant in favor of any person or group or organization from the funds of government or semi-government or autonomous organization or cannot release money.

It further state that contravention of the provisions of these rules shall be considered as a punishable offense and the persons concerned shall be punished as per rule 18 of the said code of conduct.

The Election Commission has also decided that no new grants or relief distribution activities including the issue of new VGD cards can be accepted from the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs in the respective constituencies until the elections are over.

However, the relief activities which are already being conducted will continue.
