Dhaka Club president, 3 others sued over dues

A case has been filed against Dhaka Club President Shamim Hossain and three others over allegations of withholding a former employee’s service dues and threatening to kill him.

The other accused are Director of Finance Tuhin Reza, CEO and Secretary Lt Col Sabbir Ahmed (retd), and Chief Financial Officer Iqbal Hossain.

Former club employee Ashik Molla filed the complaint with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman on Tuesday. Ashik’s lawyer Habibur Rahman said the court recorded the plaintiff’s statement, took cognisance of the complaint and summoned the accused to appear on September 29.

Ashik, who joined Dhaka Club as an attendant in 2017 and became a permanent employee in 2018, was suspended in January and dismissed in July.

He claims the club owes him Tk 490,000 in service benefits, provident fund, gratuity, notice pay and unpaid wages.

The complaint alleges that on August 15, the club gave Ashik a cheque for Tk 116,981, while Tk 373,019 remained unpaid. It further alleges that he was threatened with death if he continued demanding the outstanding dues.
The allegations are now before the court, which has summoned the accused to respond to the complaint.
