The needy ones do not get what is allocated for them under ADP

The allocated material help or money often does not reach the people for whom these are allocated.

Recently a piece of news surfaced in the media where it was reported that sewing machines under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) were allegedly found in the houses of local leaders belonging to the ruling party instead of the needy people.

This happened in the Union Parishads of Rajshahi’s Godagari and Tanor upazilas.

According to reports, first, the fund for the purpose was cut in half and sewing machines and ceiling fans were bought for distribution.

It is still more surprising that even these sewing machines and fans were not properly distributed among the poor people and it was alleged that ruling Awami League leaders and activists kept these sewing machines and fans for themselves. Reportedly, several UP chairman said that none of the poor people got these sewing machines and electric fans in reality.

It was reported that the price of a good quality sewing machine in the market is Tk 7,500 but it is shown to be bought at Godagari for Tk 10,200.

Each fan is shown to be bought at Tk 3,714. However, the fans purchased for distribution are of low quality and their market price was reported to be Tk 1,800 only.

It is a pity that in our country the poor people do not get what is due.

Clearly this is theft of the property of the poor and this hapless nation is witnessing this for a long time.

But in recent years this trend has spiked.

From the national level to the grassroots level, party people are devouring the public funds for development in this way.

During the Covid-19 pandemic the allocated rice was not distributed among the poor people who virtually starved as there was little work available during the time of the pandemic.

Even still more sad part of this is that the party people who steal the very little that is allocated for the needy people are not brought to justice.

To speak the truth, politicians at all levels do politics to embezzle public funds and by doing so these people are becoming rich overnight.

When politics is now in the hands of corrupt people, the nation can hardly hope for improvement in this regard.
